Palin's Astrological Chart-Ruthless Politics

Palin’s astrological chart reflects a ruthlessly strong woman who’s using her South Node in Capricorn and North Node in Cancer to speak “the tough talk of her Aquarian Sun, Mars and Saturn conjunction.” She’s going to be like a mother bear protecting her cubs as a woman in power. You come near her, and she’ll bite—no questions asked. Great frontier politics.

Palin’s Cancerian political style and foreign policy is so very American in its naiveté, ruthlessness, and opportunism. Basically it’s the frontier position of the early settlers who felt it was their “right” to land in a foreign country, to take the land, and kill the occupants. We were the good adventurers, killing the bad Indians and chopping down trees so that we would have land and fuel. Our country, like most countries, has taken the ideology that whoever opposes us doesn’t have God on their side. A ruthless world of red and white, black and white, good and bad, and we make the rules.

However her stellium of Aquarian planets is squared by the planet of illusion and confusion, Neptune, and though she may speak the talk of politics that she knows so well, (with her politically savvy Capricorn South Node) how can she walk “that talk” out onto the stage of world politics today without looking like a mother lost in her own illusions? How many strong mothers have destroyed their children’s lives because of their “strength?” Her strength comes from an unrelenting outdated allegiance to how things used to be ---“spare the rod and spoil the child.” What was OK for the very old fashioned mother; is now called child abuse.

Some women admire Palin as a woman because they see her outward strength. However, my point in the previous post was to say that her North Node in Cancer was a cosmic hint that she needed to be the kind of Cancerian “Mother” who loves, protects and nurtures from a place that honors the wisdom of the feminine process of life---one that moves away from an “end justifies the means” attitude of a South Node Capricorn. The frontier politics she preaches doesn’t respect boundaries or the finer shades of gray.

I’ve come to feel that we all need to access the highest expression of both our North Node and South Node, as there is good in each. There’s gold in the shadow of the South Node, and there’s a message of what we still need in the North Node. Our lives are a balance and a dance between the two. In Sarah Palin’s chart, it doesn’t matter if she plays out her Nodes in the11th house…what matters is that she plays out the highest octave or synthesis of her Nodes, and that’s what I feel is lacking here. Frontier politics and reactionary attitudes towards women’s rights are not high expressions of Cancer North Node.

Someone has told me that I shouldn’t say what a high or low expression of something is—that I should be more objective as an astrologer. However, the best objectivity arises out of a synthesis of all the factors—in astrology as in life. It’s Palin’s cold-hearted, “law abiding” non-objectivity and lack of synthesis that bothers me. It’s her particular way of expressing the Capricorn/Aquarius Nodal placement that embodies a ruthlessness that I’m objecting to. "Ruthless" is a term usually reserved for Pluto; and perhaps it’s her strict Pluto in Virgo perfectionism that leaves no room for heart that gives me the shivers. Yes, maybe it's that Pluto in Virgo in the second house....

Hi Elizabeth

Thanks as always for your insight. I've a question - not to do with Sarah Palin, but the article triggered a thought.

I wonder if you could say/post something about the nodes in mundane astrology. Do they say something about where we are going collectively? I think the NN will be in Aquarius conjunct Chiron on Election Day, which is close-ish to Palin's Aquarius Sun?

Oh, and second question. Does it matter whether the nodes are retrograding?

Thank you!

Hi Hitchhiker!
If you'll look carefully, you'll notice that the Nodes are always retrograding...there's their motion. And I find them really only truly useful in the birth chart so far. I think I'll start paying attention to their movement more, especially in mundane, but because my work is so much about personal counseling and the importance of them in the birth chart, I haven't go a strong feeling with evidence to back up for what they truly mean in transit...one can easily theorize, but I'm not quite ready to do that yet! Thanks for stopping by....~elizabeth

Ah, thanks for that. The reason I ask is the nodes are actually direct in my chart

Both Michelle Obama and the singer Tori Amos have this same nn axis as Palin. How do they compare do you think?
