This is not the kind of thing I ordinarily do. But to stay silent and not do anything is impossible. On Sunday night, "60 Minutes" aired a piece about the epidemic of rape and torture in the Congo that has reached epic proportions--the sexual violence in the Congo right now is the worst in the world. It is called a War against Women, but it's also directed at young girls, and it makes what I can imagine life in a concentration camp look like a vacation compared to the type of rape and dis-memberment that is happening right now in Africa.
The good news is that a group at: www.womenforwomen.org are helping the victims and greating a support system to help a woman go from victim to survivor. They have a sponsorship program that enables us to help one particular woman for a year for $27 a month. You can choose to write to her or not. But basically you are saving a life......this charity has received the highest possible rating for a non-profit, in that the proceeds go directly to the women. I beg you to consider.........
Wow what an amazing organization. I hate putting my credit card online though... I wonder if there are other options or if it's too much trouble for them, administratively.
ReplyDeleteIn other news, when will we see Pisces north node?? That's what I have, in the 6th house...
Enjoying your blog :)
as a woman, i thank you for including this info on your blog. this is the future. women helping women, helping save the planet. this risk is north node territory. what is yours? it is happy today:)
ReplyDeleteMy North Node, since you asked, is in Taurus which is very aware of the power of money! And I have never had any trouble with using my credit card on-line, and my clients do that with me. At one point when I was worried, I had a seperate credit card that was just for on-line purchases.
ReplyDeleteAnd I guess we have to be the compassion of pisces, not holding to the piscean illusion that we can not do anything and it will just get better. I guess I also liked the letter-writing part of this....you not only send the $27 a month, but you can choose to write to one particular woman, giving her hope and letting her know that she's not alone. They don't have the connection of the internet to ease their isolation...but letters, I hope, will help...~elizabeth
