Reversed Nodes in Signs and Houses

Reversed Nodes in Signs and Houses

How do you understand your Nodes when the direction they are pointing to by SIGN, is the opposite of the direction they’re pointing to by HOUSE? Good question! The short answer is that the SIGN describes the kind of behavior and attitude that is optimal to use, and the HOUSE describes the particular area of life—of “where”—this behavior and attitude is going to find its greatest impact. And, it’s important to realize that the Nodes are always on a polar axis with the signs and houses always opposite each other—so when there's a sign/house reversal, it calls for a more subtle understanding of the dynamic. People and charts are complex, and sometimes paradoxical!

I wrote a post on North Node Capricorn and here’s someone who replied to having a reversal in their chart—he has the North Node in Capricorn but in the 4th house, Capricorn’s opposite sign naturally, with the South Node in the 10th house, which normally rules its opposite sign---as he says:

“This is all fine and good, but what happens when you have this placement with a North Node Capricorn!!!! It turns everything inside out. What do I do?” (He has the South Node in the 10th house, North Node in 4th house.)

So with a North Node Capricorn he is called to act on all the high Saturnian qualities of good integrity, and patient, step by step, goal oriented behavior. He’s called to move away from the “lower octave” description of his South Node in Cancer---i.e. moving away from fluctuating, moody and fearful Cancerian qualities:(“nobody cares to understand me and I think I’m running out of money.”) It’s a call to accessing the highest qualities of the SIGN—in this case, Capricorn—but in the realm of the 4th HOUSE of life: which is the family of origin, the way we see and frame the story of our life (our personal mythology), and all that has to do with the 3 H’s: home, heart, and hearth. So somewhere in that area of his life, he’s called upon to be a guiding person of integrity; the one who sets the goals and integrity of the home, who moves patiently to set realistic goals within the family for himself and others…..and the one who can frame his life story in terms of what was actually done, in spite of difficulties and outcome.

We know that following the description of the North Node sign is good medicine, and a great idea for all of us. When we succeed at “doing our North Node” it’s the kind of thing we remember on our deathbed. In this case we have this confusion: the sign is descriptive of what we’re talking about, and the house describes where in life the dynamic is likely to happen. Always we look to the SIGN first as being the most important thing to consider, and the HOUSE placement next, because the house system is the weak link in astrology. We may have our birth time inaccurate (which sets the houses) or we may use different house systems according to our astrological beliefs. So trust the SIGN first!

  1. I have this situation too....

    North Node in Pisces/6th house
    South Node in Virgo/12th

And these days i feel kind of obsessed with the nodes, last night at dinner telling my friends all about them! In my experience reaching or following the path of the North Node is deeply deeply difficult -- it's almost as though the north node wants to push us back! Back to the south! But no -- we must strive!

So easy to fall back on those south node patterns and habits, so familiar--

Not that the north node is an impossible dream but it takes constant reminding, constant vigilance...

  2. It's a good obsession to follow! And are you aware of the gold in the shadow of your South Node? Remember too, that we can "feed others" by the gifts and natural abilities in the South Node, and yet we need to nurture and feed ourselves "North Node" qualities. Just think of always accessing the highest qualities of each and you'll be on a good path!
I'm working hard on my book on the Nodes and hope it will be out in a few months....we'll see. ~elizabeth spring

  4. Just happened on this site via a link - thinking about my N.Node in Aries in the 7th, S. Node Libra in 1st. I've also felt the "inside out-ness" of this type of placement to be daunting - but now I'm thinking maybe I can frame it as being a leader insterad of a loner in relationships. Right - after leaving two marriages!!! As a female brought up in more conservative times it's tough to do, but/and obviously important.

  5. Any feedback on north node in 5th house of Aquarius? I'm always looking for clearer feedback as it's tough to find in detail on the internet sometimes. Thanks in advance!

  6. I've done a few astrological birth charts for a friend who is an aquarius (3rd house) born on january 23, 1987 at 12:48am. In his birth chart it shows his north node in ARIES (6th house)?? i'm confused as i thought it should be the opposite sign which would be Leo. Is it possible to have your north node not be the opposite? If so, what would that mean?

Anyone here experienced this so far and how did it play out in your life?

  8. If a reversed nodes placement, North Node Libra 1th house/ South Node Aries 7th house, it is further "complicated" by the conjunction of the lord of the south node with the north node, Mars Libra conjunct North Node, where shall I look for the balance of this paradox ?
If there is a square to the Nodes, Saturn square North Node/Mars and South Node, will be Saturn the key?
Reading the charming North Node Astrology I haven't found, yet, a clear understanding of this.

  9. I have my north node in cancer but in the 10th house, and my south node in capricorn in the 4th house. I'm more confused than ever and it's hard to find info on my placement! any advice?

  10. I'm a bit confused, on one hand, because of the many viewpoints people have in regards to my current situation (North node Aries, 12th house). And on the other hand, these 2 (the node and the house) kinda flow in one another since they both require time alone. Would it be that bad for me if i would disregard the positive aspect of my SN Libra and focus only on myself and the spiritual world? But if i think about it a little more, every concentrated and focused work we do towards to north node, needs an outlet at some point, since everything in the universe is about balance. I wrote this comment because my SN Libra feels the need for some guidance/approval. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

  11. My husband is North Node Aquarious and in the 5th house. His south node is Leo and in the 11th house. What is the significance of the nodes switching houses?
